Finding Peace and Purpose in an Earthquake

I found myself loving the earthquake that occurred this past Tuesday. It was not an experience that I found fun or sensational, nor exciting, nor daring. The earthquake was a powerful testament to the Energy of the Earth, the Universe and All That Is. I felt small and insignificant, fragile and indispensable. Yet, in my mind's eye I choose to see the incredible force of energy that could move miles of massive rock and earth- a vision beyond comprehension. The quakes massive force was profound and awesome to behold.
At the start, the quake was met with disbelief. Though my mind and eyes were taking me through the steps to stay safe, I was eerily calm. My composure was sound and I remained steady and receptive. During the quake I distinctively heard, "All is well,do not be afraid," while my body simultaneously fell into a state of incredible peace. Though I was sobbing for no apparent nor rational reason minutes before the quake, I was now in a state of feeling cleansed, whole and loved.
I believe in Oneness, that we are all of the same energy- all of nature and all that is man-made; each blade of grass, every bird, insect and each rock, everything lives in Oneness with us. Many of us never think about Oneness or understand that we know this truth in our Higher Self and in our souls. This energy has several names depending on a person's beliefs and experiences. Some examples would include the Christian energy known as the Holy Spirit, in the East the energy is Chi,also known some parts of the world as Prana, for some it is Divine Source and others the energy is referred to as the Universal Source.
Why is it that we are all One with All That Is and yet, we hold ourselves separate? As a Christian, I worship with some who in their mind understand the concept of the Holy Spirit, but hold God as a distinct and separate entity. In Yoga, we breathe in Prana or Chi, yet fail to see and feel that we are of it. Breath is healing; it is our Life Force.
When the ground became quiet and I retreated to my home, I marvelled at the comfort in knowing that we were safe. Feeling relieved and cleansed after the quake captured my full attention. Earthquakes are supposed to be frightening and life altering experiences. At least that is what seems to be the expected experience. In danger, humans are wired for fight or flight. It is a primitive response for survival which stems from the Amygdala in the brain which fires on electrical currents, synapses. We are mostly made of water which allows these electrical currents to fire impulses rapidly. In a sense, humans are electrical beings.
I once felt like David Copperfield without training- a toaster caught fire, then the microwave exploded followed by a flaming humidifier and exploding coffee pots and wedding rings bending flat on my fingers. These unintentional energy acts were caused burying my emotional stress deep into my body; hiding them from view of others and from myself. To release the energies, I learned to ground myself by working in the soil or standing or meditating under a tree ; in essence, grounding my excessive emotional energy into the earth like a lightening rod. Many people do the same when they take a walk or go for a run to clear their minds or calm down. So much negative energy emanating from humans through the heels of their feet into Mother Earth.
It just stands to reason that several million humans who are walking on this earth are unintentionally grounding. Many people are so unhappy with the economy, politics, medical issues and personal emotional issues. Could it be possible that our collective negative energy may just be building and growing like pressure in a volcano? Do hurricanes gain more force with negative energy? Energy is always in motion. If we apply Einstein's work and that of Max Planck and others since 1986, would we learn that our energies in Oneness and All That Is affects the heavens and earth? When millions of people pray, the energy of prayer and the incredible decline in violence can both be measured. If millions of people lived in prayer for all of humanity, life and All That Is, would we affect the Universe and Earth as profoundly? Does it fall to reason that our discontent affects our planet and the heavens as strongly as we affect each other? The possibility of peace through only positive contemplation, thoughts and resolutions. The possibility of harmony with Nature as deep as the Earth is dense. It is one of those experiments that could be tried without risk. Positive thought can only create positive results. On the other hand, failing consider or to ignore the possibility could be devastating.
